Taking Lecturer Notes

Hye and Assalamualaikum.

Image result for taking note

While taking notes we need to a strategies as well. To taking an effective note you should write down ideas from your lecturer and reading it on our own words. We can use abbreviation. Those are some useful abbreviation given by my lecturer :

We need to always be prepared for attend certain class.

HOW CAN WE BE PREPARE FOR CLASS ?
  • You can do pre-reading and homework
  • Do review the syllabus that you going to study in class
  • You should look up key words prior to class
  • You also should had plan on listening 80% of the time and 20% of the time
  • The date must be write at the top of your notes paper
  • When writing notes, you should leave some spaces between the lines so that you add information
In the class you need to OBSERVE your lecturer. Those are a few key action that you can observe from your lecturer :
  • You must be alert to REPETITION
          - make a note when your lecturer repeats a specific point
  • You must WATCH the board or projector
          - the material is important if the lecturer writes something down
  • You must notice your lecturer's INTEREST level
-If you see your lecturer is excited on certain thing or topic, it is likely to be on an exam
  • You must let go of JUDGMENTS about your lecturer styles
-don't let your attitude about your lecturer's style get in the way of your education

There will be time when your lecturer isn't too interesting. Nobody is perfect. There will be time when we will moody. Those are some tips to help you when this happens :
  • when your attention is slipping, pay attention to the ACT of writing
  • you can ask questions - sometimes, the question you think is 'dumb' is on the mind of several classmates
  • you can also be a volunteer for demonstrations and discussions
  • you should sit in front of the room because :
           - it is hard to fall asleep
-the board is easier to read
-the lecturer can see you more clearly
-you are declaring your willingness to take a  risk and participate

WHY DO WE NEED TO TAKING NOTE ?

This is because taking notes during class will help us to :
  • pay attention in class
  • easy to study when having quiz, test or final exam
  • improve our memory
  • take ownership of ideas
  • engage our  senses
  • easy for us to process and organize all the data and information
Sometimes, the lecturer will test on the students on how well the students can captures given info. So taking notes saving us from lecturer's test and also help the lecturer to spot who didn't pay attention during his/her class.

After taking the notes, it's nothing if you didn't review back what have you wrote in class. You can't only read your notes when near your exam or a day before you're having test or final exam.

WHY DO YOU NEED TO REVIEW YOUR NOTE ?

  • Firstly, we will lose 80% of  what we hear
  • Secondly, its will help us to identify any questions
  • Lastly, there will be not enough time for us to absorb everything in a short time

HOW DO WE REVIEW AFTER CLASS ?

  • We must review the notes along with the book
  • We should creates our own examples
  • We also can compared our notes with others
  • We should re-write our notes
  • We should practice those skills that we want to develop
  • If not sure, we can ask the lecturer for clarification

Memory Learning

Hye and Assalamualaikum.

MEMORY VS. BRAIN

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MEMORY AND BRAIN ?

BRAIN is one of an organ inside our body. While MEMORY is an information that we stored in our brain. This is mean our memory is inside our brain.
We can also defined that memory as our SOFTWARE and brain as our HARDWARE.

Memory can be divided into three :

Image result for sensory memory short term memory long term memory

  • sensory memory - memory that related to the storage of temporary information brought by our senses.
  • short term memory - a process that allows information to be received and stored within 30 seconds to 24                                        hours
  • long term memory - memorizes something for a long time and has the ability to recall
Image result for sensory memory short term memory long term memory

RECALL

Recall is the weakness to 'call back' the information that has been stored in long term memory. It's also synonym with the word ' FORGET '. Genius people is the person who can RECALL what have been stored in their long term memory. If you want to be a genius, your brain must be potential to strengthen with stimulate, train, bury, maintain and invigorate the brain through modern and traditional method.

Those are some activities that we had during class to test our brain and memory :

1. You need to say the color instead of the words

Image result for right brain vs left brain test

2. In your opinion, how many bars are there ?

To do well on exam you must have effective study plan, active study strategies and a good memory.

According to some psychologists, this is how we collect information to memory.

My Learning Style

Hye and Assalamualaikum.

Image result for learning style inventory

This is about my learning style.

Based on the 20 questions that I have answer in educationplanner.org/students/self-assessments/learning-styles-quiz.shtml  , the result of answering all the question is :

  • Auditory : 50%
  • Visual : 40%
  • Tactile : 10%

So, based on that I was an Auditory learner!

Image result for auditory

This is mean I learn by hearing and listening. It's easier for me to understand and memorizing things that I have heard. When I getting bored I will usually humming, listen to musics or start to talk to myself.

For myself, I have certain ways of studying such as :
  • When I study I will usually read out loud so that I can memories the notes
  • Same goes when I was reading books or novels, I will read it out loud to make me understand the storyline
  • I also will sit near with the lecturer or teacher so that I can hear very well what they teach
  • When I'm doing exercises I will read the questions out loud

If you're also an auditory learning style you can also study like me or others thing such as :
  • You can use flashcard to memorize new words by reading it loudly
  • You can also read any books or assignments out loud
  • To making it easier for you to memories any facts you can also record your voice spelling or reading the facts and listen to it
  • You can also read a new materials that you want to study out loud
By following this tips, it will make you study better.

I already used this method to study and it really effective. As examples, when I answered a question I will read the question out loud so that I can understand better. Other than that, I will study with quite environment because when I study with noisy environment, I need to repeat again and again to understand it. That is why I prefer study alone rather than study by group. Last but not least, I usually will take my seat near to the lecturer so that I can hear the lecturer clearly and I can understand better. I won't never seat too in front because it's going to hurt my neck when I keep looking up to the projector.

So, try it out!

Love from me, Athirah Yusli 😊
